Kyoto Area Studies on Asia

和文叢書と姉妹版の英文叢書として、1999年に創刊されたもので、京都大学学術出版会とオーストラリアのTrans Pacific Pressとの共同で出版しています。和文叢書同様、創刊当初は主に所員の発表の場でしたが、2000年からは国外も含め、外部からの投稿を受け付けるようになりました。創刊の趣旨は和文叢書と同様、これまでの蓄積のうえに地域研究のあるべき姿を求め、かつ日本やアジアからの研究発信を盛んにすべく創設されたものです。現在、東南アジアはグローバル化の渦中にありますが、今こそ個々の地域に根差した地域理解、そして地域に即した世界認識が必要とされています。本叢書は、その課題に積極的に取り組むために、オリジナルな調査・資料に基づく、独創的な着想と綿密な分析により、地域研究に貢献する書籍の出版を目指しています。本叢書は、東南アジア研究所出版委員会が国内外の専門家三名に依頼する厳正な査読を経て、出版を認めるものです。
