Particularly spectacular was the sudden appearance of literary periodicals like Alhambra, Roman Pergaoelan, Doenia Pengalaman, and Loekisan Poedjangga, modeled after the tremendously successful Sino-Malay Tjerita Romans and Pengidoepan which had been published on Java since the mid-1920s.
