\nCurrent presentation is related to my master’s research, which explored heritage preservation and heritage tourism development in the ‘ancient villages’ in Vietnam.
\nMain focus of my master thesis was made regarding ongoing conflict between the preservation of the historical and cultural heritage, tourism development and local ways of life of the local residents in Duong Lam village – Vietnam’s first recognized ‘ancient village’ as a national heritage site. Moreover, significant part of the paper was dedicated to the Japanese Non-profit Organizations’ role in the heritage preservation and tourism development in the three ancient villages in the northern, central and southern parts of Vietnam.
\nConservation of the local historical and cultural heritage, together with sustainable tourism advancement might be essential for the restoration of the ancient villages and the potential economic development for the local population. However, improper management of the heritage preservation and tourism development lead to undesirable circumstances and crises between various stakeholders.
\nIn the current presentation I would like to introduce three villages in Vietnam, where Japanese researchers and JICA members had supported local residents in the fields of the heritage preservation and heritage tourism in the resent years.
\nAs a future research direction I would like to keep studying regarding ancient villages in Vietnam, Japan and China. I am interested in comparing various villages in the aspect of the changes in the local ways of life in light of the heritage conservation and tourism development in the villages.
