In order to carry out the project, an area-informatics approach will be introduced based on spatiotemporal analyses by adding historical research on the transformation from the traditional city form to its present &#8220;Modern age&#8221; city formation since the 19th century. In particular, this IPCR program project aims to examine the aspects of &#8220;Water&#8221; and \u201cGeologic Structure\u201d from the view point of sustainable development in Hanoi.<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"base_h5\">Description<\/h5>\n<p>The project has two aims; (1) to clarify the urbanization and transformation of Hanoi with separating three periods such as before 1873, being under French colonial, and after French colonial periods for the process of transition and transformation in local communities associated with village location, boundary, and facilities; (2) to analyze aspects of human and social behavior by integrating features on the ground, the surface, and the subsurface structures based on the studies on natural terrain and environment, phenomenon, and underground structure, and the Red River delta with analyses of the geological features on the boring investigations of the hydrological environment and the Red River embankment construction. In particular, this project focuses on the hydrological environment in Hanoi during 15 years since 1995 to analyze the dynamism of human behavior associated with the water control system and water routes in the subsurface structure. This project seeks a sustainable way of thinking about aspects of the urban development.<\/p>\n<p>In past urban studies, most focused on individual and independent discussion on the physical environment and its accumulation, human behavior, phenomenon, and so on for urban areas. Therefore, this project will contribute to providing an integrated clarification for urban studies adding the natural environment, natural terrain, and the social environment on to a historical axis (time axis) to a spatial aspect.
