If you are interested in<br \/>\nattending a dinner-reception afterwards, please e-mail the organizer and<br \/>\nmoderator, Kaoru Kitajima (kaoruk[at]kais.kyoto-u.ac.jp).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Organized by<\/strong>\uff1aKyoto University (including Graduate School of Agriculture, Global Survivability Studies, ASEAN Research Platform, Center for South East Asian Studies, Tropical Forest Research Unit)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Language<\/strong>: English<\/p>\n<p><strong>Overview<\/strong>\uff1a<br \/>\nTropical forest ecosystems are widely recognized for their high<br \/>\nbiological diversity and value as the source various natural resources.<br \/>\nYet, they are rapidly lost,  fragmented, and degraded due to land use<br \/>\nchanges and non-sustainable resource extractions.  The global awareness of<br \/>\nthis issue has lead to increasing awareness of the importance of<br \/>\nsustainable development strategies at the landscape level.  How can basic<br \/>\nknowledge on biological diversity and ecosystem functions of natural<br \/>\nforests, including secondary forests, contribute to conservation at<br \/>\nlandscape to regional levels?
