Transformation of Rural Socio-Economic Structure in South Asia

Under the situation that the traditional hired labor dependent large-scale farm management is becoming difficult due to wage hikes in rural areas with rapid economic developmet in various parts of South Asia (including Punjab, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, and Odisha, and Bangladesh) , the land sales and/or tenancy markets are expansing in recent years. The objective of this study is to investgate the behavior of dominant castes traditionally monopolyzing land in each region, the direction of land transfer, and the emergence of new agriculturalists, etc.

Rural Savings Mobilization and Formation of an Integrated Nation-wide Financial Market in Southeast Asia: Focusing on Vienam

In Southeast Asia, with the rapid economic development in the past 2-3 decades, huge amount of savings potential is being born in rural areas. And how to mobilize such savings and form an integrated nationa-wide financial market is an important policy issue. This study investigates this critical issue in Vietnam as a case study.
