Title: The Nature of Corruption in Historical Context

While empirical studies of corruption have significantly increased over the past few decades, important theoretical gaps remain concerning its definition and nature. In this colloquium, the historical evolution of corruption will be explored by reference to societal standards for political agency––that is, to the forms of power transferred from the individual to the group, and their relative balance. Based on such interpretation, a moral typology of individual corruption will be offered.
