本研究は、マレーシアの社会経済状況を脱農業化の視点から考察し、地方開発に向けた米栽培農村の行方を考察する。また、聞き取り調査を通じて、マレーシアにおける所得格差の実態を明らかにする。

My research endeavours, spanning from my master’s thesis to PhD dissertation, has included face to face questionnaire surveys in the states of Kelantan, Penang Terengganu, Kedah, Penang and Selangor in Malaysia. The main perspectives explored in these surveys were as follows: farm management analysis to enhance on-farm income (especially the paddy sector), employment structure and determinants of off-farm job choice among rural residents, comparison of income structure and inequality, expenditure patterns of farm households, quality of life among peasant farmers, living standards and satisfaction levels, and other related areas. Further, my pos-doc research project, which began in 2010 at University of Putra Malaysia, is an expansion of my research interests to cover the immense possibilities offered by organic/Good Agriculture Practices in rice farming, from both the consumer and production perspectives. After I start working as senior lecturer at Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2014, researches have been in measuring the sustainability of farming practices from the production perspective, and the impact of microcredit program in rural Malaysia as well for rural development. Additionally, I have been conducting series of surveys which are based on the agribusiness marketing perspective, encompassing areas such as consumer behavior patterns.
