プロジェクトテーマ | An Investigation of Community Based Creative Industries in Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand as Emerging Models of Social Entrepreneurships |
プロジェクト概要 | The project will describe key examples of best practice of Community-based Creative Industries in four countries outside the Philippines in the context of Social Entrepreneurships. Focusing on the Performing Arts as viable strategies of ecological-cultural tourism in those areas, the study will analyze how these groups conceptualize, operationalize, manage, and sustain their initiatives within the growing globalization in the Asian region as an instrument of affirming cultural identity, a shield for protecting bio-cultural diversity, and an engine of growth and sustainable development. |

プロジェクトテーマ | Understanding the Indigenization and Hybridization of Science Curriculum: Models of Culturally Relevant Science Education in Japan and Thailand |
プロジェクト概要 | This cross-cultural/cross-national comparative ethnographic study will attempt to understand how Japan and Thailand infuse “cultural relevancy” in science education. In particular, I am interested in understanding how the “community funds of knowledge” are utilized in science teaching and learning and how the indigenization and/or hybridization of science curriculum take place in these two countries. To achieve these objectives, I will interview key informants; analyze curricular materials, most especially textbooks; and observe schools, both in the preservice science teacher preparation and in basic education. The study will eventually generate models of culturally relevant science education grounded in experiences of Japan and Thailand. |

プロジェクトテーマ | Mba’ Alungay Bissala: Video Documentary Production Project |
プロジェクト概要 | Mba’ Alungay Bissala (Our Voices Shall Never Perish) is a video documentary project that intends to give a fresh perspective of the issues and situation, especially the everyday politics of the Sama people in the shared borders of Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Their narratives and testimonies directly gathered (from Sama Dilaut communities themselves) in selected villages in Indonesia and Malaysia will be tri-angulated with first-hand information from key informant interviewees and focused-group discussants among the academia, anthropologists, local and international government and policy-makers, media and other interested parties; and augmented with secondary archival research on the social history and history of religion. Through Critical Discourse Analysis, attempt is made to weave a new perspective of understanding the sea-nomadic existence and the sea-faring peoples’ experiences of war, migration, and the challenges to social integration as, rather than purely descriptive ethnography, a political discourse. |
