Since 1998, most of the faculty members of CSEAS are involved in the Area Studies education program of Graduate School of Asian and African Studies in Kyoto University (ASAFAS), teaching students about crucial issues in Southeast Asian studies and guiding them in their field research..

ASAFAS Education

The Graduate School of Asian and African Area Studies promote education and research based on field surveys in the area. Based on the five-year doctoral program, the School emphasizes in its curricula long-term fieldwork and holistic understanding of Asian and African ecology, society and culture and their interrelations which have shaped what Asia and Africa are today. Other than training specialists of Asian and African area studies, the School also hopes to produce personnel capable of working in international aid organizations and accordingly is prepared to issue Master’s degrees when needed. Recently, there are two division, Division of African Area Studies, and Division of Southeast Asian Area Studies. The latter has four departments, 1. Ecology and Environment, 2. Comparative Social Transformation, 3. Environment, Society and Culture, 4. South and West Asian Area Studies. For detail, please see WEB:

3) Outline

The goal of Education at Graduate School of Energy Science is enumerated as the following four points.

1. Creation of a new discipline of energy science fusing the natural science and the humanities social science.

2. Fostering of experts in energy science who can solve various energy and environmental problems.

3. Enhancement of partnerships with the society and reeducation to the member of society.

4. Fostering of experts who can take the lead internationally, by using international joint research projects.
