4) Outline

In mainland Southeast Asia, agriculture is being rapidly intensified over recent years for various reasons. Rapid agricultural intensification includes various problems. Agricultural intensification in mainland Southeast Asia, however, has occurred only recently. Understanding of how these assumed problems have evolved in reality, and what measures could be taken to solve the problems is still insufficient. In this study, we implement research activities including field surveys in selected tributary watersheds of major rivers in mainland Southeast Asia, in order to analyze agricultural and environmental problems caused by agricultural intensification. This analysis will provide basic information to policy makers, and will propose several measures to address these problems.
