4) Outline

The JSPS-LIPI Core University Program in the Field of Wood Science had been conducted to establish the science for sustainable development and utilization of forest resources in the tropics from FY1996 to FY2005 with Research Institute for Sustainable Humanosphere (formerly Wood Research Institute), Kyoto University as a Japanese core university and Research and Development Unit for Biomaterials (formerly Research Group on Wood Science, Research and Development Center for Applied Physics), Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) as an Indonesian core institution. Scientific activities in this program cover all fields of wood science and technology, including material science, physics, chemistry, biology, genetics and environmental science. More than 500 scientists from twenty-seven Japanese universities, twenty-seven Indonesian universities/institutions, four Malaysian universities/institutions, one institution from The Philippines, one institution from Thailand and one institution Vietnam joined to this program.
