Abstract:
This talk is an initial historical explanation of why fraternities at
the University of the Philippines engage in violent clashes throughout
an academic school year. It will explore the causes of these conflicts,
the main actors involved, and how these “rumbles” (as they are known)
affect internal university affairs as well as UP’s relationship with
outside political actors.
