Title: Solar energy cookers and drying for Cameroon: Life changing actions
Presenters: Pius Akumbu and Peg Barratt
Abstract:
Solar cooking has great potential for contributing to human well-being and the well-being of the planet, and efficient solar drying can help reduce the significant waste of in-season produce and contamination during drying. Home solar cooker designs include panel cookers, box cookers, and parabolic cookers. Our focus has been on box cookers, with inexpensive designs that can easily be made and we hope to spread the construction skills in Cameroon so that the people can benefit from using solar energy in food preparation. This presentation will combine (a) information about the advantages (and disadvantages) of solar cooking and solar drying, (b) information about solar cooking and drying designs, and (c) our own story of testing designs in the courtyard of the Inamori Memorial Foundation building.
