タイトル: Impacts of the WTO Accession on Chinese Exports　(with Ryuhei Wakasugi)

Abstract:
This paper, using the panel data of Chinese electrical machinery and communication equipment manufacturers, reveals that after the entry into the WTO, the export of Chinese firms was accelerated by a rise of productivity, but was not uniform among ownership structures. By disaggregating the firms into private domestic firms (PDFs), state-owned enterprises (SOEs), and foreign invested enterprises (FIEs), our empirical estimation concludes that the entry into the WTO had “productivity effect” on Chinese exports but had an asymmetric “ownership effect” on their exports, which was less favorable to the exports for SOEs in comparison with FIEs and PDFs.
