Seminar on “Northeast Thailand in Transition: Landscape, Livelihood and Life”

2014/02/11 @ 1:00 PM - 4:30 PM

The economy and society of Northeast Thailand have been changing since the onset of rapid economic growth of Thailand in the mid-1980s. The region had been developed as a supplier of agricultural products and human resources for centralized industrialization of Thai economy. This process made people in the Northeast economically richer, but the region remained as a hinterland in Thai society. The changes are, however, now extending beyond the economic aspect and can be observed in the much wider contexts including landscape, livelihood and life. This seminar aims at exchanging information and ideas on what is going on in Northeast Thailand and surrounding areas, and discussing various connections and interrelationships in the on-going transition of the region’s economy and society.
