Water Resource Management in Southeast Asian Region
Posted on May 18th, 2009 No commentsWater resource is a natural resource vital to all living things and various development activities such as irrigation, industry, housing, tourism, water power electricity, generator, and transportation. Indonesian harbours about 120 million hectares of forest cover of which 59 million have been experiencing damages, where most caused by land use conversions. This phenomenon is further imposed by the global climate change, that has resulted in unpredictable climate behaviour. The river stream zone consist of natural and artificial ecosystem vulnerable to changes. The disturbance of the balance and the water cycle at someriver and river stream area in indonesia are due to the negative effects of the development have resulted in flood, landslide and prolonged dryness. Thus, serious attention and handling are necessary, requiring comprehensive and intergrated management from various sectors and knowledge (one watershed, one planning, one integrated management).
