- Term:November, 2008 - Octover, 2009
- Sponsor:The Toyota Foundation
- Assiginment:In the developing countries in Asia, the modernization has neglected the
experience and knowledge, which have been obtained in the rural communities
from one generation to another generation and the rural development regarding
the economic development as an importance has been given since 1960s. Consequently,
the rural societies have rapidly been changed. It has been gradually observed
that the community function has become weak. This project aims to challenge
this difficult problem caused by globalization of the modernization through
international trustworthy networking-action of the people in the rural
communities, the NGOs, the NPOs, the local governments and the Universities
in Laos and Japan. In the project, especially, the rural culture of Laos
has been highlighted and the rural cultural museum program will be supported
by the people participating in this project from Laos and Japan, who will
mutually learn and support each rural culture with the broad perspective
of Asia and the experience of "CHIIKI-OKOSHI (Rural Development)"
by the active and subjective participation of the rural people in Japan.
As an output, the project will propose an Alternative Asian Rural Development
Model (AARDM) to encourage the people to live in their rural communities
with spiritual support through re-evaluating and re-creating/re-establishing
the rural culture(Quoted from Home Page of Toyota Foundation).
