Outline of Joint Research
The aim of this project is to conduct research and field work on the Informal Economy with special reference to the Global Value Chain (GVC). It also aims to build a network of practice groups (stakeholder organizations, NGOs and researchers) active in Asia pertinent to these issues. This research project will look into the relationship between the Informal Economy and the GVC and its effects on those whose livelihoods depends critically on the Informal Economy. The research will be both theoretically and empirically oriented, with an emphasis on both its economic and social/institutional dimensions. A comprehensive and multi-disciplinary approach will be applied. In addition, network building of stakeholders and academics will also be promoted through key research activities.
