Early modern Southeast Asian history
Research Interests
My current research focuses on the early modern period (c. 1350-1800),
including Asian gunpowder technology, interaction between mainland Southeast
Asia (especially Burma and Vietnam) and China, and defining an "Upper
Southeast Asia" which aims at seeking Southeast Asian "cultural
space" in South China (including Hainan and Taiwan) and Northeast
India.
