Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Institute of Asian Studies (IAS) was established in 2012 to initiate and encourage issue related research on Asia especially Southeast Asia. It is focused on three areas: Borneo Studies, Human/Capital Movements, and Popular Culture. It has a current staff strength of sixteen drawn from various disciplines including Anthropology, Sociology, History, Politics, Geography, and Comparative Literature; and expanding rapidly. The Institute invites applicants from any of these or related disciplines with a research interested in the region. The area of specialization is open and provides an early-career researcher the opportunity to write, publish and contribute to the activities of the Institute.

IAS has a vibrant research culture including an active Working Paper Series, a Book Series (Asia in Transition) with Springer, and hosts a weekly Seminar Series with lively discussion coming from invited overseas speakers and research active faculty. This position will suit candidates who are interested in preparing for an academic career in a supportive faculty environment. The duration of the fellowship is one year, with a possible extension of another year.

The successful candidate must have a PhD at the time of appointment and a clear plan for research and publications. Remuneration includes a salary of $3000 BND per month and return economy airfares. An affordable apartment, conveniently located on campus, is available to the successful candidate.
Interested candidates should send (1) CV (including list of publications), (2) reprints of selected publications, and (3) a short statement of research interests and agenda (max of 2 pages). Applicants should also request for at least two letters of recommendation to be sent directly from the referees.
