Participatory Action Research/Rural Development in the Watershed Area
研究テーマ
Since 1996 I have been working on participatory action researches in South
Sulawesi. I experienced the gaps between researchers and local community,
between university and practitioners and between local-needs and government
interventions in the poverty reduction programs and projects. Numerous
of poverty reduction programs have been conducted by governments and international
aids failed to reduce the poverty rate in Indonesia. The local communities
have become more and more dependent on outsiders interventions.
I have developed and conducted a number of community empowerment programs
which have lead me to cultivate interests in the application of Participatory
Approaches and projects emphasizing more on the empowerment of community
in managing their local resources in the watershed area. Characteristics
of areas and local people play important roles in the achievement of the
project.
I plan to compile all the experiences and studies on community development
and watershed management including community based disaster management
into a book. I believe this fellowship at CSEAS provides me the opportunity
to contribute a strategy for rural development in Indonesia and Sulawesi
in particular.
