Abdurrahman Wahid Centre for Interfaith Dialogue and Peace
2) Abu Tahay, Director, Rohingya Resources Network, Yangon
Abstract:
The issue of citizenship for minorities is increasingly important with
intensified globalization and democratization. Under this growing
influence, equality should be given to all but the Rohingya in Myanmar
have been excluded. This panel will represent the dynamics of the
Rohingya struggle to defend their rights on international and regional

An Experience Exchange and Activity Cooperation between Japan’s Minamata
Case and Thailand’s Maptaphut Campaign

Director, Ecological Alert and Recovery―Thailand (EARTH)
2) Yoshihiro Yamashita, Minamata disease victim; Visiting Researcher,

Abstract:
The presentation will share a crucial role and growing importance of
regional civic collaboration, by reviewing some aspects of citizen
movements in Japan following the worst industrial pollution disaster in
Japan―the Minamata disease outbreak―and the support provided to patients
until today. Presentation will also cover lesson learnt from Minamata
movement and activities being done and applied by EARTH to do their
campaign and activities in Thailand (Maptaphut and its vicinity in
Rayong province).
