Library
The Library actively collects a variety of research materials, including those in Southeast Asian languages. The library holds over 180,000 items ( as of March 2013) and supports specialist research activities inside and outside Japan.
Special Collections
| ■Charas Collection ( approximately 9,000 vols., mainly in Thai) | Roughly 4000 vols are cremation books (Nangsu Chaek), issued on the occasion of a person’s cremation. |
| ■Foronda Collection ( approximately 7,000 vols.) | Includes material on the history and culture of the Ilocos region of the Philippines. |
| ■Ocampo Collection ( approximately 1,000 vols.) | Monographs and periodicals from late 19th and early 20th century Philippines. |
| ■Indonesia Islam Collection ( approximately 2,000 vols.) | Collection of recent Islamic publications in Indonesia. |
