Nanyang Technological University (NTU) will be organizing the 20th Himalayan Languages Symposium from 16 to 18 July 2014. The symposium is an annual event that provides an open scholarly forum for scholars working on various aspects of languages of the greater Himalayan region: Burushaski, Kusunda, Tibeto-Burman, Indo-Iranian, Austroasiatic, Kradai, Andamanese, Nahali, Dravidian or any other language of the area. In addition to Himalayan languages, related disciplines such as history, anthropology, archaeology and prehistory of the greater Himalayan regions may be explored as well.
This will be the first time that the conference will be held in Singapore, sponsored by the Centre for Liberal Arts (CLASS) in collaboration with the Division of Linguistics and Multilingual Studies, Nanyang Technological University.
Keynote speakers include Professor Nicolas Tournadre, Lacito (CNRS) and Aix-Marseille University; Professor Anvita Abbi, Centre for Linguistics, School of Language Literature and Culture Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University; and Professor Randy LaPolla, Division of Linguistics and Multilingual Studies, Nanyang Technological University.
