Call for Papers CHILDREN ON THE MOVE: MIGRANT CHILDREN AND YOUTH IN ASIA Overview: Children and youth comprise an increasing segment of people on the move. According to UNICEF (2012), approximately 33 million international migrants, or 16% of the total migrant population, are under the age of 20. Among these, middle and late adolescents (15-19 yrs.) represent the largest group of young migrants in 2012. Nevertheless, the involvement of children and youth in cross-border migration has been given little attention when compared to that of adults. Ten students and two faculty members of Kyoto University visited the eastern Bhutan. Throughout the study tour, dynamic changes of climates, vegetation, and livelihood were observed in the altitude range about 900 – 3800 m. After arriving in Trashigang District, they made presentations about Japanese cultures in Sherubtse College and the students in Sherubtse College made a presentation about history and culture of Bhutan. After that, the students participated in the classes of Driglam Namzhag (Bhutanese Etiquette) and the students of Sherubtse performed traditional and modern dances. The Center for Southeast Asian Studies, Kyoto University is proud to present a contemporary art exhibit showcasing moe than 30 pieces of work by Yu Hyang Lee. The exhibit will take place from November 17 (Tue) to 26 (Thurs), 2015 in the lobby of the Inamori Foundation Memorial Building. Yu Hyang Lee was born in Seould, South Korea in 1946. She apprenticed and learned Chinese brush paintings under the renowned artist Wei-Yi Chi. She combines eastern East Asian styles with Western contemporary art forms to create a unique vision. On August 18, 2014, the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, Kyoto University, was part of the university-level MOU signed between Kyoto University and the Universiti Brunei Darussalam. The signing ceremony was held in Kyoto University, with President Matsumoto representing Kyoto University. Dato President Haji Zulkarnain bin Haji Hanafi headed the UBD delegation. Kyoto University’s Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) and Graduate School of Agriculture (GSA) have signed a memorandum of understanding with the Malaysian Forestry Research and Development Board (MFRDB), which governs the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), to further improve their decades-long collaborative studies on forestry and forest products. With this official partnership in place, the institutions will seek to do the following: assess the water and nutrient cycles in tropical forests and forest management-caused impacts on local communities;expand the frontiers of forest ecology and hydrology; and foster academic exchanges and interaction between both institutes.
